United States Business Inventories 1992-2018 | Data | Chart | Calendar

Manufacturers’ and trade inventories in the United States rose 0.6 percent month-over-month in February of 2018, the same as in January and in line with market expectations. Stocks at wholesalers rose 1 percent, the biggest increase since October of 2013, compared to a 0.9 percent gain in January. On the other hand, inventories slowed at autos and parts (0.9 percent compared to 1.7 percent); retailers (0.4 percent compared to 0.7 percent) and manufacturers (0.3 percent compared to 0.4 percent). Inventories excluding autos, which go into the calculation of GDP, edged up 0.2 percent, above 0.1 percent in January. Business Inventories in the United States averaged 0.28 percent from 1992 until 2018, reaching an all time high of 1.30 percent in May of 1994 and a record low of -2 percent in December of 2008.
