Mexico Interest Rate 2005-2017 | Data | Chart | Calendar | Forecast

Mexico’s central bank raised the benchmark interest by 25 bps to 7.25 percent in its 14 December 2017 meeting, matching consensus expectations. The previous move (+25 bps) was recorded in June of 2017. The policy statement underscored the complex macroeconomic context and the recent inflationary uptick. Consumer prices in Mexico rose 6.63 percent year-on-year in November of 2017, following a 6.37 percent gain in the prior month and slightly above market expectations of 6.3 percent. It was the second straight rise in consumer prices, as cost advanced faster for energy, housing and utilities and food. The central bank expects inflation to stay above the 3-4 percent target in 2017 and to converge to 3 percent by the end of 2018. However, this will highly depend on the stability of the peso during 2018. Interest Rate in Mexico averaged 5.41 percent from 2005 until 2017, reaching an all time high of 9.25 percent in October of 2005 and a record low of 3 percent in June of 2014.
